Let us clear up the most common misunderstanding first – one standard page of text is not the same as one physical A4 page. A standard translation page is a benchmark unit of measurement in the industry and consists of 1,500 characters including spaces.

A standard (uncertified) translation is used for texts that do not require official legal validity. This includes websites, business correspondence that does not require certification, and a wide range of materials such as technical manuals, marketing content, and educational curricula.

A certified translation is a translation verified by an authorised sworn translator. The sworn translator applies their official stamp and signature, binding it to the original text, thereby legally guaranteeing that the translation fully matches the original document.

A sworn translator/interpreter is a professional linguist who has absolute mastery of both a foreign language and their native language, holds a university degree, and has successfully passed examinations covering the structure of the judiciary, public administration, and legal terminology.

A certified translation by an authorised sworn translator is mandatory for documents submitted to government institutions, courts, embassies, or universities abroad or in Croatia. Certified translations of records are most frequently required for:

• Acquiring Croatian citizenship
• Employment, marriage, or university enrolment abroad
• Submitting bids for international tenders

An Apostille is a certification that verifies the authenticity of the signature and seal of the public official who issued a public document. This certification process is mandatory for certain documents intended for use abroad. The legalisation of documents certified by Barbara Adamić Deković, the sworn translator for French and Spanish at Romanica, is processed at the Municipal Civil Court in Zagreb (Ulica grada Vukovara 84).

For international procurement and bidding processes, financial, legal, and administrative documents proving that a company meets the strict tender criteria are most frequently translated and, if necessary, certified. This includes annual financial statements, extracts from the judicial register, bank certificates and guarantees, bills of quantities, commercial invoices, official declarations, and certificates of good conduct.

You can easily submit your documents digitally, either as scans or clear photographs sent by email. Once completed, standard translations are delivered to the client in electronic format (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, or PDF). For certified translations by a sworn translator, the physical documents bearing the original stamp and signature can be picked up in person, or we can send them to your address via registered mail or courier service by agreement. We can also send them as scanned copies by email upon request.

The price and turnaround time depend on the total number of standard pages, the complexity of the terminology, and the urgency of the delivery. Pricing and deadlines are determined after we receive the materials for review. For projects requiring expedited delivery, a 30% surcharge applies to the standard rate.
